3. The act of making something perfect

Perfection - does it actually exist?

The ancient philosophers have also debated and concerned themselves with these same questions and notions regarding perfection, it’s motive, it’s cause and effect, it’s meaning, and it’s origins.

It leads us to the question; is this notion of perfection real, does it actually exist? Can it be realised or understood at all?

And ultimately the answer must be yes. For if the mind, if we all, have some notion or idea of it, then it must be as real as this. Since no thing can be real to us unless the mind can perceive it, thus, if the mind can or does perceive it, it must therefore be real. It may however, be elusive and excluded from any realisation in our physical world.

In other words, like truth, the idea of perfection is abstract, and belongs only to the mind?

Since the mind is entirely separated from the physical body, and thus from the world around us; so to, these abstract ideas have no real connection with the physical world at all. These notions and ideas are isolated from what we perceive really happens, or happens to be, in the real world.

Yet this does not stop men with their aspirations to project these ideas and notions of perfection upon the world we see. Everyday we are witness to these aspirations and the progress towards perfection, that concerns the minds of men. Today, man has almost ‘perfected’ a means of industrial mass production to deliver physical constructions and consumer goods that ‘mimic’ perfection so close, it is difficult for the senses to distinguish any difference or flaw in them.

We take for granted, the food we eat, the packaging it comes in, the materials and substances used. We take for granted the music we hear, the movies we watch, and the media it is supplied upon. We have become particular to notice the slightest differences and flaws with these consumable’s, which may affect our choices, our expectations, and our so called ‘standards of living’.

At the times of the ancient philosophers, this strive towards perfection was also apparent, yet the ideal to meet the requirements in the physical world was not as close as it is today. The construction of the pyramids, of ancient architecture, of clothing, of machines, were not as close to perfection as can be realised or created today. So maybe the need to understand this concept of perfection was more apparent then, than it is today, where we take so much for granted.

Do we really need to understand these ideas and notions of perfection?

I feel that we do have need to understand these things. These notions and ideas may be essential, not merely superficial in the mind. In other words, they may be of man’s essence not merely in his imaginations. They may even be a clue to man’s origin, and govern his understanding for the future?

For example, consider the following;
why does mankind tear the planet to pieces in the strive for perfection, and the blind pursuit of happiness with the manipulation of physical things?
Rather, it would be of more benefit to understand these notions of perfection at a deeper level, a more spiritual or intellectual level, and settle for it’s projection and manipulation on a lesser degree?

If we investigate further, can we find the origin of these ideas and notions of perfection?
If we look deeper, can we find motive and the reason for these aspirations?

So where do these ideas, these aspirations for perfection come from?

Are these notions and thoughts simply ‘of the mind’, or are they much more than this?
Are they a clue to our true essence, or moreover, to a divine nature that we may be unaware of?

It may help if we examine this statement first:

"Within and without the entire cosmos and Universe, that can be broken down into matter, energy and ideas; the potential and possibility for any thing, for every thing, for any idea, for every idea is apparent".

You may not agree with this statement in whole, yet if you agree only in part; that the potential for any thing can be created from matter, energy and ideas, and is possible - then this is a start. For what else is every thing made from?

Science tells us continually, that is has proven evidence that all things are made from matter and energy, and moreover, that both these phenomena are interchangeable. Matter is energy, and energy is matter. The only questions left unanswered, is how this transformation creates living entities, and how it creates minds !

So what about ideas, where do these come from?

To begin with, we may conclude that the mind exists, and that it has ideas, formulated from stimulus and judgment. In other words, the mind has it’s own ideas, based on it’s circumstance, and thus draws conclusions and thoughts in reaction to these circumstances. That all minds are separate, and have their own ideas.

This may be true enough, but can we actually rule out the possibility that the mind is only receptive to ideas, and does not create them at all?
